Welcome to my blog. My name is Hazel Croft. I am a cultural and social historian and writer, and an active socialist and trade unionist. In this blog I will write mainly about issues connected with gender, mental health and the history of psychiatry. I will also pursue themes that have arisen from my historical research about the relationship between war, trauma and mental health. I completed my PhD in 2016 on ‘Civilian Mental Health in Britain during the Second World War.’ In the blog I will address issues of returning to study as a mature student, and how issues of age, class, gender and race structure and limit experiences and opportunities in academia.
